You Have A Purpose

Sunday Story from Lily:  To understand the setting, Lili and I were watching the Epic Kids segment online this morning from Heritage Church in Texas (heritageag.org), where my daughter and her family attend.

The Children’s Pastor, Miss Becky, was sharing the story of Esther. When the story ended, Lily shot me a puzzled look.

Me:  What’s up with the question mark all over your face?

Lily: What? What’s on my face?

Me. It was a figure of speech. Why do you look puzzled?

Lily: That’s not how the story went in my children’s Bible.

Me: How different could it be? It’s the story of Esther, the beautiful famous Queen who saved the Jewish nation from extinction.

Lily: Well, first of all Esser was beautiful and she got taken from Baby Lion to the castle.

Me: Okay, I see where you are coming from.

Lily: Then Moreki, her cousin who raised her, told her to talk to the king. A mean man, Haman had tricked the king into saying to kill Esser’s family.

Me: Yes, that’s true.

Lily: When the king found out, he sent Haman to the Land of Tickle. Or something like that. It’s where they tickle you to death. With feathers.

No, there was nothing about feathers even in the children’s Bible, but it was all I could do to hold it together to the end of this story. I couldn’t make this stuff up if I tried. So I asked her what she got from the story. Even though she had a few things mixed up, her takeaway was clear:

Lily: God has a plan for everyone’s life. The end.
